Outcomes
Local school-based BCT instructional programs are a part of the overall educational experience in high school. Currently, there are over 2,442 BCT courses available statewide including 497 BCT courses meeting University of California (UC) or California State University (CSU) entrance requirements. In addition to the variety of training options provided by California Community Colleges and Regional Occupational Programs, some private postsecondary institutions, as well as the UC and CSU systems, list at least 16 BCT courses statewide that satisfy a–g requirements for university admission. Efforts are underway to increase that number.
Raising the quality of discipline-specific instruction by including, where possible, the Common Core and academic subjects' content standards and the BCT Content Standards with the state adopted Career Technical Education BCT Standards results in the following:
- Providing new and existing resources, strategies, and activities, including standards-aligned curricula, to ensure that students are offered relevant and challenging academic and career-related experiences.
- Providing students with an awareness of the many career opportunities available within the sector.
- Establishing learning opportunities and partnerships that increase career guidance and educational relevance leading to improved student involvement, achievement, and preparation for continued education and careers in the BCT sector.
- Integrating BCT curriculum that includes industry-based standards.
- Identifying and supporting the development of BCT digital resources and related links to careers and educational opportunities within the sector.
