California Education Code Section 52302.5 requires that Regional Occupational Centers and Programs (ROCPs) provide guidance and counseling services to ROCP students. The Career Technical Education Leadership Office (CTELO) believes that proper guidance and counseling is essential to allow students to achieve their maximum potential.
Program/Services
The CTELO staff members work with the California Association of Regional Occupational Centers and Programs (CAROCP) to advise and recommend improvements to the counseling and guidance services for ROCPs in the state. Unit staff members serve on state committees and various work groups that address counseling and guidance services.
Outcomes
CAROCP adopted the National Career Development Guidelines to strengthen and improve comprehensive, competency-based career counseling and guidance services for ROCP programs. The guidelines provide indicators of outcomes and competencies and present an implementation process that encourages flexibility, involves stakeholders, builds upon existing program strengths and stimulates coordination with other organizations.
Students Served
All ROCP students have access to counseling and guidance services through their respective ROCP. Approximately 470,000 students are served each year in Regional Occupational Centers and Programs in California.
Results
Students will have a better understanding and awareness of career options available to them and have the knowledge and information about which ROCP classes would fulfill their career aspirations.
