The Teacher Librarian Program at California State University Long Beach is designed to prepare fully-qualified, outstanding librarian professionals and emphasizes meeting the information, educational technology, and reading needs of diverse populations. It offers a Teacher Librarian Services Credential, the Special Class Authorization for Digital Literacy and Information Theory, and a Master of Science Degree in Educational Technology and Media Leadership.

The state accredited program is based on the principles and philosophy of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) as well as the national AASL Standards for initial preparation of school librarians.

The program is strongly committed to the principles of equity and excellence for diverse populations. Assignments, readings, and course objectives emphasize the importance of multicultural / multilingual programs and materials. Course delivery is fully online.

Fresno Pacific University, Fresno, CA

Fresno Pacific University’s (FPU) Teacher Librarian Program prepares candidates to become experts in the school library field. Through real-world experiences and assignments, candidates become information media literacy and technology specialists as well as instructional leaders and collaborative partners in K–12 schools. FPU puts students first by offering small class sizes and student cohorts throughout the program, and is taught by professors who are experts in the school library field. The FPU program is completely online and is designed for students interested in earning a Teacher Librarian Services Credential and a Master of Arts in Education with a School Library and Information Technology Emphasis.

San Jose State University, San Jose, CA

Convenient online program designed for aspiring teacher librarians. Approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), coursework focuses on the skills needed for professional employment in K-12 school libraries, including collaboration, instructional strategies in information literacy and digital literacy, school leadership, and program administration. Students can expand their knowledge and career opportunities by pursuing both their Teacher Librarian Services credential and Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree simultaneously. Teacher librarianship is one of the exciting career pathways students can follow within the MLIS program, which is fully accredited by the American Library Association.
