Classroom Resources from PBS. In the days immediately following the September 11, 2001 terrorism attacks, PBS gathered resources to help educators teach students about peace, tolerance, war, patriotism, geography, and other related issues. Although the resources were developed in 2001, educators can continue to use these valuable resources to teach lessons on these subjects.
National September 11 Memorial & Museum
Commemorative resources for high school educators include historic timelines, downloadable Film 9/11: Stories of Survival and Loss, guidelines for classroom discussion and more.
Library of Congress
The Library of Congress, in collaboration with the Internet Archive, webArchivist.org, and the Pew Internet and American Life Project, has commissioned a collection of digital materials from the internet dealing with the September 11 attack. It can be found at September 11.archive.org. The archive will preserve the reactions to the attack by the press, institutions, corporations, and individuals.
September 11: Bearing Witness to History
The Smithsonian National Museum of American History has assembled a special collection of September 11 objects recovered from New York, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA in memory of the 10th anniversary of the event. An online collection of resources including an exhibition mounted in 2002 are also available.
War and Terrorism
The National Council for the Social Studies offers a variety of resources and lesson plans on September 11 and the war in Iraq.
