Dear Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools:

Third Apportionment for the Arts, Music, and
Instructional Materials Discretionary Block Grant,
Fiscal Year 2022–23

This apportionment, in the amount of $74,629, is made to APEX Academy (Charter Number 1459) in support of the Arts, Music, and Instructional Materials Discretionary Block Grant. Amounts are available from the state General Fund pursuant to Section 134 of Assembly Bill (AB) 181 (Chapter 52, Statutes of 2022), as amended by Section 56 of AB 185 (Chapter 571, Statutes of 2022), Section 102 of Senate Bill (SB) 114 (Chapter 48, Statutes of 2023), and Section 100 of SB 153 (Chapter 38, Statutes of 2024); and Items 6100-485, Schedule (2), and 6100-488, Provision 11, of AB 178 (Chapter 45, Statutes of 2022). Funding is provided to obtain standards-aligned professional development and instructional materials in specified areas, obtain professional development on improving school culture, develop diverse and culturally relevant book collections, operational costs, and purchase COVID personal protective equipment.

The amount paid in this apportionment reflect the remaining balance of APEX Academy’s revised allocation, based on the total amount of valid expenditures prior to ceasing operations. Funds were previously withheld due to the charter school’s closure, effective June 30, 2023; however, the California Department of Education (CDE) has received documentation to validate funds were used appropriately, expenditures were made prior to closure, and the AMIM program and audit requirements were met.

A warrant will be mailed approximately three weeks from the date of this letter. For standardized account code structure coding, use Resource Code 6762, Arts, Music, and Instructional Materials Discretionary Block Grant and Revenue Object Code 8590, All Other State Revenue.

The Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools was notified of this apportionment by email sent to their CDEfisc email address. The CDE requested that the email be forwarded to APEX Academy and the Los Angeles Unified School District, the charter school’s former authorizer, and included the links to this letter and the accompanying apportionment schedule posted on the CDE web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r14/amimbg22res.asp.

For questions regarding programmatic requirements and use of funds, please contact the Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division by email at CFIRD@cde.ca.gov.
