Attn: Seymour Amster, Chief Executive Officer
18017 Chatsworth Street, #337
Granada Hills, CA 91344
Dear Mr. Amster:
Apportionment to the Parents, Educators/Teachers & Students in Action
Fiscal Year 2022–23
This apportionment, in the amount of $1,200,000, is made from the General Fund to the Parents, Educators/Teachers & Students in Action (PESA) pursuant to Control Section 19.56(c)(8) of the Budget Act of 2022 (Chapter 43, Statutes of 2022) as amended by Section 207 of Assembly Bill (AB) 179 (Chapter 249, Statutes of 2022). This apportionment reflects 100 percent of the funds available to PESA in fiscal year 2022–23.
The purpose of this funding is to provide support to the PESA for truancy and absenteeism prevention programming. Legislative intent is to allow the PESA to expand their school social workers and youth leaders program throughout Los Angeles County with a concentration in Senate District 24. This funding will also allow PESA to put into effect a mobile office plan for delivery of its wrap around educational services in the community, including local neighborhoods, supportive housing, soccer fields, parks and places where homeless youth gather. Furthermore, pursuant to Control Section 19.56(a), funds shall be available for encumbrance through June 30, 2024, and expenditure until June 30, 2026. Funds may be used to pay for costs incurred prior to the enactment of AB 179.
This letter and the accompanying apportionment schedule are posted on the California Department of Education’s webpage at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/specprogonetime.asp.
