Funding Description

The College Readiness Block Grant is established for the purposes of providing California’s high school pupils, particularly unduplicated pupils as defined in Education Code (EC) sections 42238.01 and 42238.02, additional supports to increase the number who enroll at institutions of higher education and complete an undergraduate degree within four years.

Allocation Formula A school district, county office of education, or charter school shall be eligible for an allocation based on an equal amount per unduplicated pupil enrolled in grades 9 through 12 during the 2015-16 fiscal year, as defined in EC sections 42238.01 and 42238.02, attending a school that is currently accredited or in the process of obtaining accreditation from the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges. No school district, county office of education, or charter school serving at least one unduplicated pupil in grades 9–12 shall receive an allocation of less than $75,000.

Other LEAs shall develop a plan describing how funds will increase or improve services for unduplicated pupils to ensure college readiness and include information on how it aligns with the LEA’s local control and accountability plan. As a condition of receipt of funds, LEAs shall report to the CDE by January 1, 2017, on how the LEA will measure the impact of the funds received on the LEA’s unduplicated pupils’ access and matriculation to higher education.
