What is CDEbox?
CDEbox is a secure, cloud-based, collaborative, online file-sharing website. It was initiated by the California Department of Education (CDE) to allow greater transparency and communication between CDE staff and designated stakeholders. CDEbox allows the CDE to create a folder structure for every project, set different folder permissions for project participants, manage version control, sort data for internal enterprise reporting for all documents submitted, and much more.
CDEbox allows stakeholders to have 24/7 mobile and desktop access to their project files so they can easily submit their documents to CDE for review and approval.
Vision
CDEbox for School Facilities is a group within CDEbox that has been implemented as a collaboration site for all school construction projects and site applications submitted to the CDE in accordance with the California Code of Regulations, Title 5, sections 14001-14036. CDEbox for School Facilities has been developed to facilitate required reporting to CDE and to make construction and site acquisition projects more transparent to the clients.
NOTE: Access to the CDEBox for School Facilities group is by invitation only, to be used by the CDE staff and collaborators working on specific school construction projects which are under CDE's authority.
Purpose
Historically, CDE clients did not have the opportunity to view field oversight reports and documents submitted by designated stakeholders in both an online environment and in a single location. CDEbox for School Facilities allows internal and external stakeholders to share, view, and collaborate, in real-time, in one online location. Forms previously mailed and processed as physical documents can now be posted online in a matter of seconds, providing significant savings in both time and money. In addition, the ability to access materials is immediate, as opposed to being stored in a physical location inaccessible to external stakeholders.
CDEbox for School Facilities Allows
- District collaborators to view all campuses and projects within their district.
- All other collaborators to view all contracted active projects within a district.
-
All projects you, as a user, are involved with.
NOTE: Only designated projects can be involved with this program.
What CDEbox is NOT
- CDEbox does not fulfill a professional’s reporting obligations, as required by code, to entities other than CDE.
- In its current format, CDEbox should not be used by professionals as a storage location for all of their project files in lieu of their own personally maintained records database.
- CDEbox should not be considered a replacement for direct communication between different project participants.
