Background

Approximately 1983–84 through 2012–13

Effective 2013–14, the former Pupil Transportation Program was subsumed into the local control funding formula (LCFF). Local educational agencies continued to receive the amount received in 2012-13, net of any Control Section 12.42 reduction, as the LCFF Home to School Transportation Add-On.

Applicable statutes/regulations:
Education Code sections 41850 - 41857

Source of Appropriation/Budget Act Item:
Budget Item 6110-111-0001(1) and various trailer bills for deferred funds

Program description:
Home-to-school (HS) and severely disabled/orthopedically impaired (SD/OI) transportation funding was available to eligible local educational agencies (LEAs) to reimburse them for the approved cost of transporting pupils to and from school.

The entitlement for each eligible LEA was equal to the lesser of (1) the prior-year HS or SD/OI entitlement or (2) the prior-year's approved HS or SD/OI transportation cost respectively. Funding was contingent upon the availability of funds in the annual budget act.

For each fiscal year that funds were received, LEAs were required report the HS and SD/OI transportation costs via the annual report of pupil transportation form (Form TRAN) in the SACS Unaudited Actual Software.
