New Pre–Kindergarten (Pre-K) Statutory Age Eligibility Calculator
On April 8, 2025, the California Department of Education (CDE) released a new web tool called the Pre–K Statutory Age Eligibility Calculator for the California State Preschool Program (CSPP) and the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program. California law specifies the ages by which children are eligible for the CSPP and the TK Program. This tool allows users to input the child’s birth date to calculate age eligibility for a specified month and fiscal year. After these three fields have been input, the calculator can inform users on the child’s CSPP Age Eligibility Status and TK Age Eligibility Status.
This calculator is now available for use and can be found at Pre-K Age Eligibilty Calculator.
How to Use the Pre–K Age Eligibility Calculator
After navigating to the Pre–K Age Eligibility Calculator site, choose the fiscal year you would like to check the child’s age eligibility for. After selecting the correct fiscal year, select the correct reporting period from the drop down menu list. Then, input the child’s birthdate and click the “Check Age Eligibility” button. You should now see the child’s statutory Age Eligibility Status for CSPP and TK.
New Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) Feature
On May 13, 2025 the CDE will enable a self-service password reset (SSPR) feature in the California Preschool Data Collection (CAPSDAC) System Online Portal. The SSPR feature will allow all CAPSDAC users to change or reset their passwords. This will give all users the ability to change or reset their password without administrator or support desk help. To access the SSPR feature, after the feature is enabled by the CDE, all users will receive a prompt on their next login into the CAPSDAC Online Portal to set up the SSPR feature.
How to Set Up SSPR
Open your web browser and navigate to the CAPSDAC Online Portal.
Once you navigate to the CAPSDAC login page, you will be asked to input your CAPSDAC Account Username and Password. New CAPSDAC users will be asked to update their password from the initial auto-generated password.
After inputting your CAPSDAC username and password, or updating your password as a new user, you will be prompted with a screen that reads “More information required”. This is the prompt that begins the SSPR set up process for your CAPSDAC account. Follow each prompt.
Please note, when asked for an email to receive a confirmation message to reset your password, please be sure to use an email that you can receive messages at. The CDE recommends that you use your work email that was used to create your CAPSDAC user account. This email will be used to send a code to reset your password, do not enter your capsdac.org username in this email prompt.
How to Use SSPR
The SSPR feature should be utilized if you forget your password, or if you would like to change your existing password.
To begin the password reset process, navigate to the CAPSDAC Online Portal. Once there, select your account from the Microsoft login screen, or choose the "Use another account" option to enter your username. Both options will direct you to a screen where you will be prompted for your CAPSDAC user account password. Beneath the password input field, click on the "Forgot my password" hyperlink to initiate the password reset process.
To begin the account recovery process, enter the username that ends with @capsdac.org associated with your CAPSDAC account, followed by the characters displayed in the CAPTCHA image or audio.
You will be directed to a screen that asks you to choose a contact method for verification. Select “Email my alternate email” to receive an email containing a verification code or notification. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the verification process.
You will then be directed to a screen where you can set a new password. Enter the new password in the first field and confirm it by re-entering it in the second field. Once you have verified that both password entries are correct, click the "Finish" button to complete the password reset process.
