English Language Arts/English Language Development SMC

1. Welcome and Introductions
   SMC Co-Chair Wild called the English Language Arts/English Language Development (ELA/ELD) SMC meeting to order. All participating ELA/ELD SMC members, IQC member, and non-commissioner facilitators introduced themselves, verified the posting of the public meeting notice, and introduced public members. The CDE staff members were also identified.
   
   
2. Review Training PowerPoint and Facilitator’s Training Manual (Information/Action)
   Jim Long, Consultant, Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division (CFIRD), lead the discussion on the draft PowerPoint presentations that will be used during both Session 1 and 2 of the 2015 ELA/ELD Adoption Reviewer training held on April 13–17, 2015 and April 27–May 1, 2015, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel LAX in Los Angeles. He walked through the daily presentations for the trainings. After the discussion, SMC Co-Chair Wild called for comments from the ELA/ELD SMC members, Commissioners not on the SMC, and members of the public. She then called for a motion from a SMC member.
   
   Action:  Commissioner Galvan moved to approve the draft PowerPoint presentations and the facilitator’s training manual that will be used during both reviewer training sessions for the 2015 ELA/ELD adoption. Commissioner Herrera seconded the motion. There was no discussion or public comment. A roll call vote was called.
   The motion was approved by a unanimous vote of the committee members present.
