File Structure: School Enrollment (2014–2022)

File structure for school-level enrollment by enrollment type, race/ethnicity, gender, and grade for academic years 2014–2022.

Beginning in 2020–21, the annual enrollment counts provided in the DataQuest reports and in the supporting downloadable files include both primary and short-term enrollments (C = Combined Enrollment below) to align with other uses of the data, including the Unduplicated Pupil Count (UPC) used in the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), and for the Free and Reduced Price Meal (FRPM) data, both of which include primary and short-term enrollments on Census Day.

Note: This file contains multiple years of data. The ACADEMIC_YEAR field is provided that may be used to select a single year of data or to aggregate the data by year. Additionally, this file does not contain the county, district, or school name. To obtain this data, download the Public Schools and Districts Data Files and match records by the CDS_CODE field.

Type of enrollment record. This field is coded as follows:

  • P = Primary Enrollment
    The student’s name appears on a register, roll, or list, the student is currently attending (or intends to attend) the educational service institution (ESI), or is responsible for the student's instruction (students attending NPS schools).
  • C = Combined Enrollment
    The combined enrollment of primary and short-term students. Short-term enrollment is defined as when the student’s name appears on a register, roll, or list, the student is currently attending the educational service institution, and receives or will receive the majority of their instruction at the institution for less than 30 days.
