Alternative Dispute Resolution


Funding Description

Funds are used by local education agencies (LEAs) through the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) to develop and test procedures, materials, and training to support alternate dispute resolution (ADR) in special education. Parent or guardians of students with disabilities, local education agencies and SELPAs may utilize the ADR program to resolve disputes at the local level.

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria LEAs participating for 2011-12 are eligible if they received a grant in the previous year based on a review of the amount expended. They are required to develop and participate in local alternative dispute resolution inside of their SELPA, and outside of their SELPA at the request of the California Department of Education (CDE). LEAs for 2011-12 will be granted funds based on CDE's selection.
Other Eligibility Considerations Selected LEAs are required to collect, maintain and provide data concerning ADR expenditures, training, and activities to the CDE.
