Title VI, Part B, Rural Education Achievement

Funding Description

Title VI, Part B, Rural Education Achievement Program (REAP), is a federal program contained in the Consolidated Application. Funds are available under two separate formula programs that target rural local educational agencies (LEAs) – the Rural and Low-Income School Program (RLIS) and the Small, Rural School Achievement Program (SRSA). RLIS: Funds go to eligible LEAs on a formula basis. SRSA: Data are collected via the Consolidated Application and forwarded to the U.S. Department of Education. SRSA funds are sent directly to eligible LEAs from the U.S. Department of Education.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria RLIS: An LEA is eligible for RLIS if 20 percent or more of the children served by the LEA are from families with incomes below the poverty line, and all of the schools served by the LEA are designated with a school locale code of 6, 7, or 8 by the National Center for Education Statistics. SRSA: An LEA is eligible for SRSA if each school served by the LEA has a school locale number of 7 or 8, and either the average daily attendance is fewer than 600 or the county population density is fewer than ten persons per square mile. See Additional Information Number 1 for an explanation of school locale codes.
