Funding Description

The Federal Public Charter Schools Grant Program is a discretionary grant program administered by the Charter Schools Division. This funding will allow California Department of Education (CDE) to award up to five sub-grants to eligible applicants across the state to serve as Critical Friends Group® (CFG) Coaches, tasked with developing regional CFGs for charter schools in California, over a three year period, pending the approval of one No-Cost Extension for fiscal year (FY) 2023-24.

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies, nonprofit organizations
Required Eligibility Criteria To be considered eligible for funding, applicants must have multiple years of experience working with a high-quality charter school(s). Eligible applicants must be local educational agencies, including school districts, charter and non-charter schools, or a county office of education, or a non-profit charter school support organization. Individuals and for-profit entities are not eligible for funding.

Allocation Formula The CDE intends to fund up to five sub-grant awards over three FYs, at approximately $40,000 per sub-grantee per FY. However, to maximize flexibility in the design of sub-grant projects, the CDE has not established minimum or maximum funding levels for sub-grants. The CDE will evaluate projects on a case-by-case basis. However, the CDE reserves the right to request budgetary revisions as a condition of funding.
