Funding Description

The Federal Public Charter Schools Grant Program (PCSGP) is a discretionary grant program administered by the Charter Schools Division. This funding will allow California Department of Education to award up to three sub-grants to recruit and facilitate multiple cohorts of charter school participants in Critical Friends Group professional learning communities to develop and improve high-quality schools; and provide best practices workshops for charter and non-charter schools, in order to improve academic achievement for all students in California.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies, nonprofit organizations
Required Eligibility Criteria Eligible applicants must be California-based Local Educational Agencies or an education non-profit that supports charter schools. The applicant must be legally constituted and qualified to do business within the State of California and must be in good standing with the California Secretary of State. For-profit entities are ineligible for this federal funding, nor may for-profit entities collaborate on this sub-grant.

Allocation Formula The total amount projected to be available for this project is $1,294,000 over the term of the sub-grant from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024, pending U.S. Department of Education approval of one 2023-24 No Cost Extension. The California Department of Education intends to fund three sub-grant awards over two fiscal years (FY), at approximately $215,666 per sub-grantee per FY.
