Funding Description

The Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program (CSESAP) provides up to a dollar for dollar match on amounts withheld from a participating local educational agency's (LEA's) classified school employees' monthly paychecks during the 2023-24 school year. The classified employees' pay withheld and the state match funds will be paid by LEAs to the LEA's eligible employees in the summer months following the 2023-24 school year.

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria School districts and county offices of education that elect to participate must notify their classified school employees by January 1, 2023, and the California Department of Education (CDE) by April 3, 2023.

Funding

Legal Authority Education Code Section 45500; Section 184 of AB 178 (Chapter 45, Statutes of 2022) provides $90,000,000 and Section 139 of AB 181 (Chapter 52, Statutes of 2022) provides a supplemental amount of $35,000,000, as needed for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years.

Other Participating LEAs must report to the CDE by July 31, 2024, amounts withheld from participating classified school employees` paychecks during the 2023-24 school year. CDE will apportion funds in August 2024.
