Dear Select County Superintendents of Schools:
Apportionment for Ethnic Studies Local Support
Fiscal Year 2021–22
This apportionment, in the amount of $50,000,000, is made from funds provided by subdivision (e) of Section 132 of Assembly Bill (AB) 130 (Chapter 44, Statutes of 2021) upon the enactment of AB 101 (Chapter 661, Statutes of 2021) in the 2021–22 Regular Session. Funds appropriated may be used to support curriculum and instructional resources, professional development, or other activities that support the creation or expansion of ethnic studies course offerings, including, but not limited to, courses that use the ethnic studies model curriculum adopted pursuant to Section 51226.7 of the California Education Code as a guide.
Funds are allocated to each school district, county office of education, charter school, and state special school at a rate of $25.57 ($25.566411) per each pupil being served in grades 9–12. Pupil counts were determined using the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System for grades 9–12 for fiscal year 2021–22. The source file for this data can be found on the California Department of Education’s (CDE’s) web site at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/ad/filescupc912.asp.
The amount paid in this apportionment reflects 100 percent of the entitlement calculated for each local educational agency (LEA) and state special school.
County superintendents of schools were notified of this apportionment by email sent to their CDEfisc email addresses. The CDE requested that the email be forwarded to all school districts and charter schools in the county, and included the links to this letter and the apportionment schedule posted under “Ethnic Studies” on CDE’s Categorical Programs web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/. The program web page also includes a link to the schedule of Ethnic Studies 2021–22 allocations.
Warrants will be mailed to each county treasurer approximately three weeks from the date of this notice. For standardized account code structure coding, use Resource Code 7810, Ethnic Studies, and Revenue Object Code 8590, All Other State Revenue.
