Michael Warych, Education Administrator, Whole Child Division, CDE, will provide a brief overview of SARB operations. Michael Warych will also present the proposed agenda for this meeting and draft minutes of the December 12, 2024, meeting for consideration

Update of 2024–25 Model SARB Recognition Program, by Michael Warych, Education Administrator, Whole Child Division, CDE

10 a.m.—Information/Action

Michael Warych, Education Administrator, Whole Child Division, CDE, will present a 2024 State SARB recommendation to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI) for a second read and approval

10:10 a.m.—Information

Thomas Prouty, Deputy General Counsel, Legal, Audits, and Charters Branch, CDE, will present a summary of the Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act, followed by comments and questions from SARB members and the general public

10:25 a.m.—Information

Update on legislative items relevant to school attendance by Legislative Representative, Government Affairs Division, CDE

10:40 a.m.—Information

Select members of the CDE’s Chronic Absenteeism Workgroup will provide a brief overview of the group’s efforts to develop a comprehensive approach to attendance and engagement in California

11 a.m.—Information

State SARB member, Robert Schussel, will present his personal comments regarding pre/post-pandemic chronic absenteeism

11:30 a.m.—Information

Michael Warych, Education Administrator, Whole Child Division, CDE, will facilitate State SARB member announcements and information sharing, including, but not limited to:

  • Updates on any recent or upcoming workshops, conferences, or training opportunities

11:45 a.m.—Information

  • Members of the public will be invited to speak for a maximum of three minutes each. Comments will be for information only.

Noon—Information

  • Closing Remarks and Adjournment
  • Future meeting dates: All meetings on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
    • May 15, 2025; August 24, 2025; November 20, 2025
