Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:

Schools to Share myON Digital Library Login for Free Access This Winter Through Literacy Initiative

As the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, one of my biggest and boldest goals has been to ensure that every California student learns to read by third grade by the year 2026. This is a reminder to our schools that the California Department of Education (CDE) recently partnered with Renaissance Learning, Inc. (Renaissance) to ensure that every California student can access thousands of engaging digital reading resources for free during winter break by visiting the myON website at https://www.myon.com/index.html.

This winter, the Gift of Literacy is now available with a single statewide shared login to the myON digital library of books and news articles. This access is available to all California students who are not already reading on the platform with their own personalized accounts. With this shared account opportunity, every student can access unlimited free reading opportunities at home, at school, and in their community.

Any California student can benefit from 24-hour access to thousands of myON books in English and Spanish until January 31, 2022. Students can easily browse or search the digital library to find books to match their interests and grade level. There are also options for students to read books online or offline, even in areas with low-bandwidth environments.

With the same shared login, students can also read myON daily news articles in English, Spanish, or French. These articles have been written by journalists for students and reviewed by a child psychologist for age-appropriate content. For local educational agencies, educators can monitor engagement and measure student growth with updated insights and can receive reports at the individual student, group, class, school, and district levels.

If your students are not already reading with myON, we strongly encourage you to share this exciting partnership with them and their families. Participate by following these simple steps to log in to myON and start reading:

  • Go to https://www.myon.com/index.html and click on “myON login”.
  • Sign in using the single statewide shared account credentials:
    • School Name: Gift of Literacy
    • Username: myon
    • Password: read
  • Select a book or news article and start reading!

This partnership with Renaissance strengthens our efforts to promote literacy across the state by providing access and equity, supporting reading inside and outside the classroom, and focusing on growth and intervention.

Please consider sharing the myOn login with families in your district. We hope every family takes advantage of this moment to access free myON digital library resources to continue to read over the holidays and create a lifelong love of reading.

For help accessing and logging in to myON, contact the Renaissance Support Team at 800-338-4204 or email myonsupport@renaissance.com.

Sincerely,

Tony Thurmond
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
