Dear County and District Superintendents, Charter School Administrators, and School Principals:

Eleventh Annual California STEAM Symposium

On behalf of the California Department of Education, I am excited to invite you to the eleventh annual California STEAM Symposium February 9–10, 2024, at the Long Beach Convention Center. Presented by Chevron, this science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education professional learning event brings together passionate people seeking inspiration and energizing engagements and the opportunity to collaborate with STEAM education experts. The Symposium is co-hosted by the California Department of Education, the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, and the Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation.

Every year, participants from dozens of states and multiple countries attend the Symposium. Event attendees explore high-quality STEAM strategies to cultivate systems that promote lifelong learning through inclusive, targeted practices and policies and high-impact techniques. These approaches promote a sense of belonging and ignite student passion for STEAM learning while also supporting social–emotional development.

The Symposium is committed to advancing equity in STEAM and will focus on the following themes during breakout and keynote sessions:

  • You Belong in STEAM: Creating conditions to nurture student agency, identity, and inclusion through joyful STEAM learning experiences
  • Recruiting, Training, and Retaining Diverse and Inclusive STEAM Leaders: Strengthening the educator workforce

The Back-to-School Registration Rate of $445 is available until October 20, 2023, and the presentation proposal deadline is October 4, 2023. Please visit the Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation California STEAM Symposium web page at https://cdefoundation.org/cde_programs/steam/ to learn more and to register.

Sincerely,

Tony Thurmond
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
