Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:

Take the Go Organic Pledge to Bring Healthy, Fresh Ingredients to School Meals

On behalf of the California Department of Education (CDE) and in partnership with Conscious Kitchen and the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD), I invite all local superintendents, food services directors, and child nutrition leaders to join us as we kick off Mission: Possible! Go Organic and take California’s Go Organic Pledge together.

Our schools play a vital role in the healthy development of California’s children. For many students, school cafeterias are their most reliable, consistent sources of healthy, fresh meals.

Mission: Possible! Go Organic is a joint initiative of the CDE and Conscious Kitchen to include more fresh, organic ingredients in school meals across the state. Join the CDE, Conscious Kitchen, WCCUSD, and voices from the field to hear how possible it is to take important steps toward going organic.

What: Mission: Possible! Go Organic Kickoff Webinar

When: June 25, 2024, noon to 12:30 p.m.

Where: Zoom and Facebook Live. Please register via Zoom at http://bit.ly/3zab0oJ or watch on the CDE Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CAEducation

Local educational agencies (LEAs) in attendance will have the opportunity to take the Mission: Possible! Go Organic Pledge, identifying one feasible, local step toward increasing organic ingredients in school meals. LEAs that take the pledge will receive ongoing support from Conscious Kitchen to address supply chain needs and provide additional assistance.

Thank you for your partnership in service of our students, schools, and communities. We look forward to seeing you Tuesday at noon on Zoom and live on Facebook @CAEducation.

Sincerely,

Tony Thurmond
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
