Background
The ACT test is a standardized test owned and published by ACT, an organization by the same name. The test is designed to measure skills that are most important for success in postsecondary education and contains four multiple-choice tests—English, mathematics, reading, and science—and an optional writing test. A data sharing agreement between the CDE and the College Board has allowed the CDE to match ACT tests to California public schools and produce an ACT Report and downloadable data files that displayed ACT data for each school, district, county and statewide. Effective February 2022, following a review of current CDE and local educational agency business needs with respect to the ACT data, the CDE has discontinued the creation and publication of the ACT Report and supporting downloadable data files.
Note that the CDE provides information and data on college readiness through the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), a computer-based assessment that is given to students in grades three through eight and eleven each spring. This test has been specifically developed to gauge and determine students’ progress towards career and college readiness. For more information, please refer to the CDE
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) web page.
