Public Charter Schools Grant Program

The California Department of Education (CDE) Public Charter Schools Grant Program (PCSGP) office will be presenting in-person at the Charter Schools Development Center (CSDC) conference in Sacramento on November 19, 2024. This presentation will cover grant funding and application writing. Proposed PCSGP eligibility criteria, including the requirement for autonomous governance structure, will be described.

From Proposal to Payoff: Unlocking K-12 Grant Funding, a Collaborative Presentation from EdTec and the California Department of Education on Tuesday, November 19, 10:30–11:45 a.m.

BACKGROUND: Effective October 1, 2024, California was awarded a $93 million grant from the federal charter schools program and plans to distribute up to 70 subgrants to new, replicating, and expanding charter schools in 2024–29. Proposed funding levels include:

Award Proposed Funding Level
Increased Maximum Base Award Expanding Charter Schools: $600,000
New & Replicating Charter Schools: $800,000

Proposed Supplemental Funding per Criteria Met: $50,000-$200,000
