Categorical Programs calendar of key reporting deadlines for local educational agencies (LEAs).

Below is a list for local educational agencies (LEAs) of key reporting deadlines and reporting information for select state and federal categorical programs administered by the California Department of Education’s (CDE) Categorical Allocations & Audit Resolution Office. Please visit the CDE’s Funding web page for the reporting requirements for all other programs.

Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program

To see if funding is appropriated for a specified year and the respective school year for withholdings, please visit the CDE's Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program (CSESAP) web page. Below are key dates for CSESAP:

  • March 1 – April 1 (each year in which funds are appropriated): LEA Notification to the CDE of Election to participate
  • End of June – July 31 (following each school year in which withholdings are made): LEA Request for Payment from the CDE
Mandate Block Grant

August 1 – 30 of each year: LEAs notify the CDE of its decision to participate by submission of the Mandate Block Grant Application

Unemployment Insurance Management System
(0000)

October 1 – November 1 of each year: County offices of education report covered employees in the Form J-3 and return it to the CDE. For more information on the Form J-3, please visit the CDE’s Unemployment Insurance Management System web page.

Neglected or Delinquent Survey
(3025)

November 1 – 30 of each year: LEAs submit the Annual Survey of Local Institutions for Neglected or Delinquent Children for the purposes of Title I, Part D, Subpart 2 funding.

COVID-19 Stimulus Funding

LEAs are required to report to the CDE on funds received through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act, and the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act. For reporting windows and use of funds timelines, please visit the CDE’s Federal Stimulus Reporting web page. LEAs can report on these funds through the Stimulus Funding Reporting Application and can utilize the Reporting Help Pages for guidance.
