2006–07 Advance Apportionment Letter

Letter Head: Jack O'Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Phone number 916-319-0800

October 18, 2006

Dear County Superintendents of Schools, Auditors, and Treasurers and Special Education Local Plan Directors:

2006–07 ADVANCE APPORTIONMENT

County treasurers are receiving monthly warrants that reflect state aid for programs included in the 2006–07 Advance Apportionment for elementary, high, and unified school districts, charter schools, and county offices of education. The Advance Apportionment total was $26,889,824,657.

As provided in California Education Code Section 41330, the 2006–07 Advance Apportionment is based on the 2005–06 Second Principal Apportionment state aid. Adjustments, such as 2006–07 statewide growth rates, authorized in statute were then applied to the state aid. Reconciliation to current year actual entitlements will be resolved through updates at the subsequent 2006–07 First, Second, and Annual Apportionments. LEAs should budget accordingly.

Included with this letter is a summary of the method by which the 2006–07 Advance Apportionment was calculated. A copy of this letter and the applicable apportionment exhibits are available on the California Department of Education’s Web site under Principal Apportionment at http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/pa/index.asp.

County superintendents should advise districts and charter schools of this apportionment as soon as possible by providing them a copy of this letter.

If you need assistance, or have any further questions, please contact the Office of Principal Apportionment and Special Education at 916-324-4541.

Sincerely,

Scott Hannan, Director
School Fiscal Services Division
