This management bulletin supersedes: California Department of Education (CDE) Management Bulletins: USDA-SNP-13-2009; USDA-SNP-19-2012; USDA-CNP-10-2012 and consolidates guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Policy Memorandum SP 22-2024 issued on May 22, 2024 and related USDA policy memo SP 24-2024 issued on June 26, 2024. Both policy memos inform Child Nutrition Program operators about the option to use geographic preference to procure unprocessed, locally grown and locally raised agricultural products. This management bulletin provides background, the final rule update to geographic preference, the definition local, California procurement preference, the definition unprocessed local foods, and establishing local specification and defined scoring advantage, as well as resources and contact information.
