Policies Relating to Use of School Facilities

Information on policies relating to use of school facilities, including, but not limited to bathrooms and locker rooms for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ+) students, their educators and their families.

Updated Legal Guidance: Protecting Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Students Against Discrimination , California School Boards Association March 2017
This legal guidance is intended to provide clarity regarding existing state and federal laws that serve to protect transgender and gender nonconforming students against discrimination on the basis of sex, and the responsibilities of district and county office governing boards under these laws.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District’s Administrative Regulation on Nondiscrimination/Harassment (5145.3)
Kern High School District has a very similar published Administrative Regulation 5145.3

The purpose of this Reference Guide is to clarify federal and state law, regarding sex-specific and all-gender single- and multiple-user restrooms, and to provide District guidelines regarding such restrooms.

SHAPE America (Society of Health and Physical Educators) Transgender Inclusion : Much of sports is organized by sex or gender; however, not every student fits into or identifies with the binary of male and female. Physical education and athletics are integral parts of the kindergarten through twelfth grade school experience. Educators recognize that a group of students, those who identify as transgender, require our attention to ensure that they have an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of participating in physical education and athletics in a safe and respectful climate.
