REQUIRED: 2024–25 FFVP Orientation Trainings


Congratulations on your selection as an Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) grantee and thank you for your interest in expanding nutrition education and access to fresh fruit and vegetables for students in your elementary schools.

The California Department of Education (CDE) requires all new and continuing 2024–25 FFVP grantees to complete the mandatory three-part FFVP Orientation Online Training Series, Course Number 900, before implementing the FFVP.

The original due date to complete the training series was Friday, August 30, 2024. The CDE is extending the due date to Friday, September 13, 2024.

Mandatory Training: Descriptions and Audience

The three online training topics are: (1) FFVP Grant Overview, (2) FFVP Fiscal Responsibilities, and (3) FFVP Claiming in the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System (CNIPS) External link opens in new window or tab.. The descriptions of the mandatory online trainings and who should attend are as follows:

  1. Grant Overview Online Training

    • Description: This online training includes a review of the basic components of the FFVP, federal and state guidance for implementation, nutrition education resources, and program promotion.

    • Who Should Attend: Staff responsible for implementing the FFVP grant are required to participate.
  1. Fiscal Responsibilities Online Training

    • Description: This online training includes information on the grant funding schedule (two allocations), allowable and unallowable expenses, procurement, budgeting, record keeping, and the reimbursement process.

    • Who Should Attend: At least one staff person per school food authority (SFA) is required to participate and it is suggested that staff responsible for program oversight, budgeting, and claiming participate as well.

  2. Claiming in the CNIPS Online Training

    • Description: This online training provides an overview of the process for using the CNIPS External link opens in new window or tab. to complete, submit, and revise FFVP claims; grant funding (two allocations); and allowable and unallowable expenses.

    • Who Should Attend: At least one staff person per SFA is required to participate and it is suggested that staff responsible for completing FFVP claims participate as well.

Documentation

At the end of the online training series, you will have access to a printable certificate of completion. Save and print your certificate and keep it on file. After printing your certificate, select the Submit button to send your responses to the CDE. If you do not select Submit, your participation in this course will not be submitted and sent to the CDE.

Optional Training Opportunity

  • FFVP grantees may also complete the FFVP Administrative Review (AR) Process Online Training, Course Number 803; this training is not mandatory, but highly recommended. This training is intended for new and continuing grantees and provides an overview of the FFVP portion of an AR.
