Dual Language Immersion Grant (DLIG)

Information regarding the DLIG for expanding and establishing dual language immersion (DLI) programs.

The purpose of this grant is to expand or establish new DLI programs that provide integrated language learning and academic instruction for native speakers of English, and native speakers of another language.

DLIG goals:

  • High academic achievement
  • First and second language proficiency
  • Cross-cultural understanding

Assembly Bill 130, Chapter 44, Section 158, Statues of 2021, provides funding over a period of three fiscal years, for the DLIG program to assist eligible entities to expand current or establish new DLI programs. Expansion includes adding grades or classes. Revitalizing an existing program is not and was not in the definitions of expanding or establishing a new program. Other language acquisition programs such as one-way bilingual, developmental bilingual, transitional, or other programs were not eligible for this grant.

DLIG funds shall be used for activities that directly support the development of DLI programs through the following allowable activities:

  • Purchase of instructional materials and resources
  • Development and implementation of professional learning for teachers and school administrators
  • Teacher recruitment
  • Development of curriculum and instructional materials
  • Family and student outreach
