Job Description

Education Programs Consultants (EPCs) with expertise in a wide variety of education areas are needed to analyze, plan, develop, administer, and evaluate educational programs in California's schools. EPCs serve as departmental spokespersons, and as consultants to local, state, federal, public, and/or private school officials in either general or special curricula and instructional program planning. They help develop new education programs designed to improve educational outcomes in public schools. EPCs interpret statistical and anecdotal data in an educational area; develop educational program recommendations and implementation strategies; generate policy alternatives for management decision making; assist external agencies or networks of people engaged in educational program improvement efforts; monitor educational projects and/or improvement efforts and prepare and present documents on sensitive policy issues for a variety of constituent groups or individuals. EPCs typically work within a program unit and may have statewide or regional program responsibility. They may also provide leadership and training to employees at the level of Education Programs Assistant.

Qualifications Assessment Questionnaire

The California civil service selection system is merit-based, and eligibility for appointment is established through a formal examination process. The Education Programs Consultant examination consists of a Qualifications Assessment Questionnaire (QAQ) that will be used to evaluate your experience, education, and training. The QAQ is the entire examination and will account for 100% of your score. Candidates will receive notification of their score by mail.

To apply for this examination, you must submit a complete application package which includes an Employment Application (STD. 678), the Qualifications Assessment Questionnaire with the Affirmation Statement, and evidence of completion of the education/credential requirement.
