Special Education Guidance
When is it Appropriate to Remove a Reported Special Education Meeting Type, 300 – Pending Initial Evaluation
Monitoring report 16.8 was modified to include students reported to CALPADS who have a Special Education Meeting Type of 300 – Pending Initial Evaluation. The section below describes the scenarios for when it is appropriate for LEAs to remove 300 – Pending Initial Evaluation records.
When a parent or guardian has given consent for an initial evaluation, and the Special Education Meeting Type is reported to CALPADS as 300 – Pending Initial Evaluation, AND
- The parent subsequently does not want to continue the assessment; OR
- The student transfers to another LEA, and the parent does not want to continue assessment; OR
- The student no longer resides within your LEA and has not re-enrolled in another public California school district;
Then it is appropriate to remove the 300 – Pending Initial Evaluation record from CALPADS. Please take note: The removal of the pending record is specific to CALPADS reporting. The LEA can still track this locally; however, it should no longer be reported if it falls under the circumstances above.
Reminder of Posted Guidance on Resolving Certification Validation Error CERT168
LEAs continue to request guidance for resolving CERT168 – Special Education Program Setting Code must be Populated errors on Special Education (SPED) records. LEAs should refer to Flash 193 for the published guidance on resolving CERT168 errors.
