WorkAbility I Request for Applications

The WorkAbility I (WAI) program is governed by California Education Code Sections 56470-56474 and provides comprehensive pre-employment training, employment placement, and follow-up for high school students with an individualized education program in special education who are making the transition from school to work, independent living, and postsecondary education or training. Population served may include secondary students with disabilities, adults with disabilities and other individuals who experience barriers to successful completion of school and gaining meaningful employment.

Document Description
Cover Letter Cover letter for the WorkAbility I (WAI) Fiscal Year (FY) 2024–25 Request for Application (RFA). This RFA is intended for applicants proposing to implement a new WAI program or to expand an existing one.
Request for Applications (DOCX) Instructions and forms for completing the WAI RFA; July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
Form A: Intent to Submit an Application (PDF) Interested applicants must submit Form A for the WAI Grant to the California Department of Education, Special Education Division by email at WorkAbility1@cde.ca.gov by 5 p.m. on October 16, 2024.
Form B: Application Face Page (PDF) Applicants shall complete Form B and attach it to the front of the completed application.
Form C: Project Work Plan (DOCX) Applicants shall complete Form C, which presents the key milestones and tasks for the proposed WAI program.
Form D: Budget Detail Workbook (XLSX) Applicants shall complete Form D: Budget Detail Workbook to be submitted with the application.
Additionally, a separate Budget Narrative document in Microsoft Word or PDF format must be provided. Refer to Section IX. of the RFA for instructions.

Certifications and Assurances

General Assurances & Certifications (Posted May-2024)

Required as a condition of receiving funds. Applicants do not need to sign and return them with the application; they must be downloaded and kept on file for compliance reviews, complaint investigations, or audits. Applicants that participate in the Consolidated Application - ConApp - should have a copy on file and do not need another copy. Program-specific assurances are not included here and should be listed separately on the RFA.
